Happy Birthday, Jürgen Habermas!

Posted on Jun 11th, 2009 by Albert : ~ Albert
One year ago I posted this:

A very short Interview with Jürgen Habermas on YouTube

I am sure Juergen Habermas was smiling about this WEb 2.0 thing. Personally I have read his work since I was 14 and agree completely with Ken Wilber about this heavyweight of critical thinking. Differences with others, like Peter Sloterdijk do not matter here.

And I am grateful to have found this great forum from Denmark presenting lots of his texts, articles and speeches.

Habermas Forum

Jürgen Habermas is celebrating his 80th birthday next week . and fullheartedly I want to congratulate him from this space in the Internet, Jürgen isnt so much trusting right now:):)

Happy Birthday, Prof Habermas!

My stock response to your posting here on Gaia has quickly become “never heard of him!”

So once again - thank you for directing me towards yet another brilliant mind.  I very much enjoyed what he had to say during the short interview provided.

Yes, and he belongs to the generation born before WW2. he is marking for me the transition to a 21st century paradigm.

Taking his dictum “I am amusical in religous terms” to the realization that spirituaility and science are in need for reconciliation without sacrificing ANYTHING from the first Enlightenment.

Albert! I will certainly be celebrating. I adore Habermas–I love his work on communication and understanding and I actually think it fits well with another of his generation, if a member of a different realm. Thomas Berry has a similar (though spiritually inclined) appreciation for the inherent telos of language.

In any case, thank you for the heads-up. Happy birthday Habermas!

Hi Rommel, I saw you commented already in 2006 at Andrew Keens site here.

Regarding Habermas main work, the public spheres, democracy and communication, poiltics etc….there will be no simple next level of evolution. There will be many shifts as Steve McIntosh said in august 2008 in his blog about change in general.

Any approach following Habermas (including it and taking it into the next dimension(s)needs a full understanding of second tier worlds. (Thats of course more than second life:):)

Habermas belongs to a generation with strong witness of Ausschwitz and WW2. Cold War and global pertuberances after the fall of the wall.

His life work is based on the rationale for public communication and seucring it against prerational and irrational attacks.

ANY approach beyond Habermas needs not only to include it all. The new pathologies which potentially emerge in every new evolutionary step need to be adressed. Without first tier allergy, as Kelly sosan Bearer recently blogged:):)

When will we see the first Professor doing this in research, teaching and public discourse within the mainstream? When can we wish Happy Birthday to this academic innovator who isnt hiding within acdemic walls but participating in the new spheres of communication as Habermas did in the late 20th century?
