Wotan

Posted on Oct 21st, 2009 by Albert : ~ Albert
Crossposting here something from the MUlti-Lingual Pod. Its about the power of mythological in the unconscious. Especially if and as much not felt and expressed in the developed and developing person. And of course in collective identity too.

This is an article from
Carl Gustav Jung . Published in 1936. And an ecellent complimentary source to Heinrich Heines text Rat eines Traeumers presented here in Multi-lingual Pod too earlier.

Jung is referring precisely to the psychic side and the collective unconsciousness in German culture. Though this dimension is to be integrally broadened it nevertheless is abolutely crucial for any understanding .

And I am writing about it not simply as intellectual excercise. Its an existential endevor. And it was an even brutal experience within myself last 40 years.

Its clear that Nietzsche-as quoted here by C.G: Jung -felt and sensed this same psycho-physical force. He was the most lucid author from last 150 years in Germany. He ended as broken soul.

Its a fantastic and tough challenge at once to finally tame and galvanize Wotan for the 21st century

. Wotan

"...

In Germany shall divers sects arise,

Coming very near to happy paganism.

The heart captivated and small receivings

Shall open the gate to pay the true tithe.”

- Prophecies of Nostradamus, 1555

...

Itis above all the Germans who have an opportunity, perhaps unique in history, to look into their own hearts and to learn what those perils of the soul were from which Christianity tried to rescue mankind.Germany is a land of spiritual catastrophes, where nature never makes more than a pretense of peace with the world-ruling reason. The disturber of the peace is a wind that blows into Europe from Asia’svastness, sweeping in on a wide front from Thrace to the Baltic, scattering the nations before it like dry leaves, or inspiring thoughts  that shake the world to its foundations...."

Clarissa Estes book: Very powerfully adressing the wild side in women.

Would be great to hear more from especially female Jungian analysts from today.

About the irrationale and the transrationale. Taking into account that powerful basic instincts and mythological realities need to be lived. Not only reasanably thinking about. This is what the Wotan Article is saying too.

Very best,
Albert

This is wonderful, Albert!

I am truly excited about this!  Beyond Freud and Jung!  Taking it beyond human potential movement!  What I personally have mixed with Jung's work is Zen  -totality.  You can face the unconscious in an unconscious way…or you can face the unconscious in a totally conscious way (smile!)…much different alchemy!  much different experience.  Experience mind with no-mind! - meditation, sex, love, prayer are essential steps to integrating and encountering the fragments.  Jung felt one's inner and outer selves could be integrated….yes and then ?…then? Transcended!  Transcended with skill in awareness.  Awareness can give a certain capacity, a certain pathway beyond even the conscious and unconscious mind.  Simply beyond.

O, and the German mind!..yes.  Such a beautiful race of people with such great traditions and philosphophies.  The most refined intellect possible, great scientists, musicians, novels, poetry!  Truly no mind excels the German mind.  But once they fell into the hands of Hitler the damage was done. Now they are hyper..never again will allow a leader to destroy them (I feel like crying).  Great people!  They must hurt more than anyone that they allowed an idiot, a stupid idiot into power.  That somehow he represented them, their potential, their genius.  Mind is conditioned from the outside…and now this genius is conditioned by this horrendous experience.  He did something to them that cannot be defined, cannot be easily said.  It went deep down, painfully.  And now it seems the German people are afraid to be influenced by any power outside of themselves.  And maybe that is good..maybe to teach them to be a great influence unto themselves.  A great enlightened country.  They are genius by nature…they certainly can bring the highest enlightenment if given right practice - given back their hearts!  But it is not only in Germany…all people are have some fear of charismatic people.  I don't mean to point strong finger in one direction.

The heart!…Finding a way back to trust - intution.  I feel a trembling when I say it, because I can well imagine what kind of task this is!

Albert!  You are shining example of the German mind!  And the potential of the German People!!!

Again, quite excited about this!  I hope you share this paper!

Sincerely!
Che

Che, thank you very much!

Light and shadow are ALWAYS close together. In individuals as much as in collectives. Even the more emergence and growth the more ir can oscillate.)

Now, the furor teutonicus, Jung is referring to, besides other fragments from Nietzsche, needs integration into all realities of the inner and outer worlds. Thats why during the 12 years of Nazi terror , and weven after WW2 , it needed decades of an collective odyssee , even more trials and erros, blindspots, drama, denial, confusion, irony, cynicism, despair, brain drain and the mediocrity of relativism and rational flatland.

You say it! Poetry, music, science, sports…its all there.
However, unconnected, unispired by highest visions and without fusion of most powerful irrationale AS MUCH as the trantrationale.

A new dialogue and inspired co-evolutionary quest for converging visions with the Jesish people is a challenge too. Both countries, and its people will be tested how bold, how free and willing they are to enter this new terrain.

The Wotan Complex cannot be deleted simply It has to be integrated, accepted and lived.

This was the way the great Padmasambhava dealt with the ancient Tibetan gods and shamanic forces. He integrated it all. That was -besides other processes- the birth of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism.

Its no coincidence that the swastika was used by the Nazis too. And that they were obsessed with European and Asian occultism.

Thanks to Carl Gustav Jung an essential element of “Germanic” identity can be rediscovered, revamped and reloaded.

Very best,
Albert

Once you have had a taste of your own existence, your own self - which is existence - the taste gives you the courage to go deeper into the existence of others…into the collective unconscious!

If knowing your own existence is so blissful, then entering into the mysteries that surround you, human mysteries, collective mysteries, mysteries of animal, stars, mythology…!

And once you've gone deep, you do not fear death!  You become awe-struck. And when fear of death is no more, the heart can gain courage - share that courage!

Again, I am somewhat awed at this journey you are taking!

I imagine so many blessings!  It is a powerful journey!

Lovingly,
Che

One additional hint. In 1917 German theologian

Rudolf Otto

published his important book:

Idea of the Wholy

On page 12/13 (Google book version)
he describes clearly the so called mysterium tremendum.

This gives the feeling for what Jung is referring to.

Best,

Albert
